Shirley Chisholm, the first Black U.S. congresswoman and first Black candidate to make a bid for a major party presidential nomination, invited herself to many tables of power. A teacher by training, she represented New York state in the House of Representatives from 1968 to 1983. While she did not win the Democratic presidential nomination in 1972, she ran a spirited campaign with the slogan, “Unbought and Unbossed.” She was also a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus and active in the NAACP. Throughout her life, Chisholm fought for the rights of women and people of color. She did not wait for permission to stand up for her community, and encouraged others who were underrepresented to take their own rightful place in government.

The Dream is Free; the Journey is Not
Put Your Dream To The Test = dream is something that is beyond us. Reaching your dreams will improve your life. The more valid reasons you have to achieve a dream, the higher the odds are that you will. Put Your Dream To The Test … Write down why achieving your dream is important to you.

Do You Want it, or Does Someone Else?
Live Out Your Own Dreams = The first question from John Maxwell’s book, Put Your Dream To The Test, deals with ownership … Ask yourself, “Is my dream really my dream?” Don’t try to live out someone else’s dream. You will never reach the dream that you should reach, unless you have ownership.

The Dream is Free, but the Journey Isn’t
Dreams Are Free, But The Journey Is Not = Why do people who have wonderful dreams, not always achieve those dreams? In John Maxwell’s book, Put Your Dream To The Test, he discusses the answer to this question … When we have more valid reasons to achieve a dream, the higher the odds are of realizing that dream. Everything worthwhile is uphill, including our dreams.

In Put Your Dream To The Test, John shares 10 questions that will help you find the valid reasons you need in order to achieve your dreams.

Activate Your Dreams! = John shares, "The dream is free, but the journey isn't." Take action - a dream will not fulfill itself! Not only can you dream it, you can do it too...we believe in you.

Success is a long journey to take alone. So go ahead, build yourself a dream team and accomplish your dreams together! When you surround yourself with uplifting people you will amaze yourself at the greatness you can achieve together.

Build Your Dream Team = It all started with a dream...

There's a reason people use the description "dream team." Get yourself a group of people who are the best at what they do and can bring your vision to life. Be sure to surround yourself with people who are passionate and willing to give all their efforts, so your dreams can become a reality!

A core value of the John Maxwell Team is our commitment to inclusion and diversity. Today we have over 21,000 members spanning over 160 countries, and while we celebrate this incredible feat, we know it hasn’t come without a price.
It’s been said that if something is worth attaining, it’s worth fighting for. Today, we join hands and hearts with millions across the United States and the world in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who in his life and death embodied these ideals of inclusion and diversity.
“I Have A Dream” is quite possibly the most famous speech in history — it is certainly the most famous in our lifetime. Yet it's more than just a famous speech, it’s a vision for how people all over the world should live.
At a recent International Maxwell Certification Event, one of our members, Stephon Ferguson, paid an incredible tribute to Dr. King. Stephon painstakingly studied Dr. King’s speech for years, modeling the delivery and pace down to the very last inflection.
He performed “I Have A Dream” for all those in attendance, and it was absolutely riveting. Stephon is the only person licensed by the King family and has been hired by the U.S. National Parks service to give this rendition of Dr. King’s speech.
We’re honored to share this with you today.
Here at the John Maxwell Team, our connection goes beyond just a rendition of “I Have A Dream” — for the last 20 years, Bernice King (Dr. King’s youngest daughter) has been mentored by John Maxwell.
About 15 years ago, John was privileged to speak at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Dr. King’s birthday, and after the event he led some of our very own members to a surprise visit with Coretta Scott King and Bernice King. When told about the John Maxwell Team, Bernice said, “John, I want to be a member.”
We’re privileged to say that Bernice King is a founding member of the John Maxwell Team, and we continually strive to embody the ideals passed onto all of us by her father.
Please enjoy this incredible presentation, and join with us in celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his incredible legacy.
