Three Components of Cultivating Culture

What’s the most valuable asset to your organization? It’s the people, hands down. People are the driving force behind your organization’s success, which is why it’s so important to have a healthy culture. Culture is all about the people. In this lesson, John teaches that the culture is made up of the people and of the messages they receive from their leader. Today, John is going to talk about the three ways that those messages are received from the leader to the employee so that you can better understand, as a leader, how to cultivate a culture that will make both the business and the people thrive.
During the application portion of the episode, Mark Cole and Traci Morrow join forces to dive into John’s lesson and discuss the cultures they are building within their own families and within the John Maxwell Enterprise. If you want to cultivate a healthy, thriving culture within your business, you definitely don’t want to miss this episode.
Our BONUS resource for this episode is the “Three Components of Cultivating Culture Worksheet,” which includes fill-in-the-blank notes from John’s teaching. You can download the worksheet by visiting MaxwellPodcast.com/Culture and clicking “Download the Bonus Resource.”

Mindset Quotes

Quotes About Mindset, Culture, Environment, Outlook, and Attitude

  • I believe that a simple and unassuming manner of life is best for everyone, best both for the body and the mind. -- ALBERT EINSTEIN
  • The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions. --OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES
  • Nothing paralyzes our lives like the attitude that things can never change. We need to remind ourselves that God can change things. Outlook determines outcome. The Difference Between Average and Achieving | MWM
Failure Can Be A Blessing In Disguise = John C. Maxwell's book, Failing Forward, helps people successfully fail. The difference between high achievers and average people is not their brilliance or luck, but how they look at failure. Successful people experience more failure than unsuccessful people. It isn’t the amount of failures you have had that can defeat you, it is the attitude, or mindset, you have towards failure. Successful people look at failure as a learning tool and stepping block that helps them grow. Don’t look at failure as a liability. Your mindset makes the difference. Make the most out of your failures.

Who You’re With is Who You Become | MWM
Develop Your Own Personal Growth Environment = The sixth law discussed in John Maxwell’s book, The 15 Invaluable Laws Of Growth, is the law of environment. It says that growth thrives in conducive surroundings. Are you in a growth oriented organization? Develop your own personal growth environment. When you change your surroundings, you will discover that who you are with determines who you become, how you learn, and how you develop.

You are Responsible for the Transformation You Desire | MWM
Adopt New Empowering Ideas = Our environment has a huge impact on who we are. We become a product of our environment, particularly the one we grow up in. We are all tattooed in the crib with the beliefs of our tribe. When we are growing up, we soak up not only all the good, but also all the bad of what is going on around us. You aren’t responsible for this baggage that resulted from your childhood environment, but you are responsible for changing your baggage if you want something different in the future.

Your Environment Determines Your Development | MWM
Be Intentional About Your Environment = Environment is crucial. Everyone should be intentional about finding an environment that is conducive to growth. You don’t have to remain where you are … Instead, allow yourself to be uplifted by finding an environment where you are surrounded by like-minded and growth-minded people. What has been a good growth environment for you?

You Are a Product of Your Environment
Propel Towards Your Goals = Is your environment what you want it to be? Are you creating an environment that will help you accomplish your goals and objectives? We are a product of our environment. Do an assessment on what is around you, the people who surround you, and the experiences that result. Make sure your environment is conducive to what you want to accomplish.

Practice What You Preach = Every day you have the opportunity to start your day with a mindset. There are multiple mindsets, however, it is up to you to decide which one you will practice. Make it a habit to be in a positive mindset so that tomorrow you can repeat that attitude.

Scriptures

Romans 8:5-7 5 For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit. 6 For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so.
