Roadblocks

Roadblocks Can Be Opportunities
It’s easy to get frustrated when we feel trapped—when we can’t quite get from point A to point B because something is standing in our way. This is in us from birth. You can see this in toddlers when a parent puts up their arm to block their small child from something dangerous. And we can get so focused on where we want to be that we fail to take a moment to simply appreciate where we are. Use roadblocks in life as opportunities rather than impediments.

  • Obstacles are necessary for success because in selling, as in all careers of importance, victory comes only after many struggles and countless defeats. Each rebuff is an opportunity to move forward; turn away from them, avoid them, and you throw away your future. --Og Mandino
  • Obstacles cannot bend me. Every obstacle yields to effort. --Leonardo da Vinci
  • Obstacles cannot crush me. Every obstacle yields to stern resolve. He who is fixed to a star does not change his mind. --Leonardo da Vinci

You could have two people- one person has everything he needs to succeed and one person has nothing. If the person who has nothing succeeds, he's a thug. Cuz he overcame all the obstacles. --Tupac Shakur

It’s Not the Size of Your Problem; It’s the Momentum You Come at it With | MWM
Managers Solve Problems, Leaders Create Momentum = The fourth principle of problem solving is to create momentum. Momentum can solve most problems. It builds energy and exaggerates things in a positive way that can carry you through a problem. It isn’t the size of your problem that is the issue, but the level of your momentum. The more you increase momentum, the more you can solve problems.

The Significance of Small Steps | MWM
Small Steps Are The Stepping Stone To Bigger Things = Quantum leaps do not happen without small steps. What small steps have you decided not to take because you were looking for a bigger one? The quantum leaps that you desire will not happen without short, mundane, seemingly insignificant small steps. By taking those small, persistent steps, you can find success.

Perfectionism is Rooted in Fear
Chose Progress Over Perfection = So many of us struggle with perfectionism. It is rooted in fear and can lead to procrastination. Instead of being a perfectionist, focus on excellence—learning in the journey—the process of making something good and then great. Perfectionism is elusive, it is a state that you can never reach. If you choose excellence over perfectionism, you are choosing progress over perfection.

English novelist Phyllis Dorothy James, writing as P.D. James, introduced Scotland Yard detective Adam Dalgliesh in her 1962 debut novel “Cover Her Face.” This insightful observation by a secondary character comes at the end of “The Private Patient,” the 14th and final novel in James’ popular series, published nearly half a century later in 2008. The full quote notes that it takes wisdom to determine what you want, “and then to direct all your energies towards getting it.” James could very well have been reflecting on her own lengthy career as a successful novelist when she penned this scene, which offers the reminder that achieving a happy life requires both thoughtful contemplation and focused, sustained action.
