A Leader’s Lasting Value is Measured by Succession | MWM
Extend Your Legacy = In his book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, John Maxwell discusses the Law of Legacy, which says that a leader’s lasting value is measured by succession. If you want your leadership and legacy to be long-lasting, you need to hand the baton on to someone else to follow in your footsteps. Look around … Who will you hand your baton to?

What Legacy Are You Leaving? | MWM

Start today determining what you believe, what you want to be known for, what you want to show the world you stand for, and then take action to build that legacy. Don’t let someone else decide your legacy for you, live it out the way you want to.

legacy doesn’t necessarily fall in your lap; it doesn’t choose you, you get to choose it. Start today determining what you believe, what you want to be known for, what you want to show the world you stand for, and then take action to build that legacy. Don’t wait until the end of your life—don’t let someone else decide your legacy for you as they’re busy planning your funeral. You have the rest of your life to live out your legacy now.

Every person leaves some kind of legacy, whether positive or negative. I believe we have a choice about the legacy we’ll leave, and we have to be intentional to leave the legacy we want.

The most important first step is knowing the legacy you want to leave. Most people accept their lives, but they don’t lead them. Being proactive and intentional about how to live is important to leaders. It’s influential.

Honesty Moves You Forward | MWM
Honesty moves you forward = Being honest with yourself and with others saves so much time and much energy. When you're honest you can spend more time moving forwards than having to retrace your steps to make sure everything lines up.

You Lead Better When You Acknowledge Your Failures | MWM
Embrace Authenticity = Embrace honesty when you make mistakes. People respect leaders who openly admit when they are wrong and work to make things right. When you are willing to be vulnerable—accepting and learning from your mistakes and failures—you and your team can move forward. Authenticity doesn’t guarantee success, but inauthenticity guarantees failure.

Authenticity Earns Credibility
Be Authentic And Real = We all want to have honest relationships and be around people who are honest. Honest people are truthful, what they say is reflected in what they do. They have a sense of character and authenticity. Everyone has good days and bad days, and when we admit that and walk through life in the middle of the road, we develop credibility and live honestly.

Finishing Quotes

Quotes About Finishing
  • I like finishing a movie and having this living, breathing thing. --Dean Cain
  • If you enter a race and finish last, you are a winner. The loser never entered the race. -- Roger Crawford
  • Starting strong is good. Finishing strong is epic. -- Robin Sharma
  • Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they DON'T QUIT.
  • Keep your eyes on the finish line!

Finish Well to Begin Well | MWM
Finish Well to Begin Well = Are we ever really finished? Is there ever a finish line to leadership or living your best self? Finish is a word often looked for in projects or timelines—we want to check it off and be done. But in the world of leadership, you're not finished, you're reassigned and being challenged to the next thing. While you might be finished today, you have just begun tomorrow.

What Legacy Are You Leaving?
The Work Begins Now = One of the primary goals of a leader is finishing well. To do this, leaders need to be humble, emotionally healthy, and able to receive feedback. Great leaders who finish well also ask “What legacy am I leaving …?” What are you going to do today, to set up a team so that when you finish, they keep going strong?

2 Timothy 4:7 ESV I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 ESV Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 ESV I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Acts 20:24 ESV But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Hebrews 12:1 ESV Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Galatians 5:7 ESV You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?
2 Timothy 2:5 ESV An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.
Philippians 3:14 ESV I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 4:6-8 ESV For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
Philippians 3:12-14 ESV Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Respect Quotes

  • Who is the happiest of men? He who values the merits of others. --JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE

Disagreement Often; Disrespect Never | MWM
Respect Is Earned = There is a lack of consideration in today’s culture. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. This is about respect. Respect is earned, and once you earn respect people will give you their trust. Leaders can disagree and still work together when they have respect.

Leading Well Precedes Leading More People | MWM
Learn To Lead Well = In his book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, John Maxwell discusses the Law of Respect, which says that people naturally follow those who are better leaders than themselves. If a person is an average leader they will want to follow a leader who is above average or a little beyond them in leadership skills. We want people who are more experienced and successful to lead the way. As you learn to lead well, you will be able to lead more people, and those people will respect you.

How Do You Replicate What You Respect? | MWM
Replicate it to extend a legacy... = Success is when those that know you the most think the most of you. Respect flourishes when your respect for a person grows the more you know them. Who do you respect? Replicate their characteristics, and respect one another!
Be someone that others can respect = Respect is when you respect someone so much that the more you know them, the greater that respect grows. Who do you respect, and what can you take from them to replicate it to extend a legacy that others would want to follow?

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Find Out What It Means
by: The John Maxwell Company

Below are seven action steps that can enable you to earn respect from those you lead.

  • Respect yourself and those you work with
  • Exceed the expectations of others
  • Stand firm on your convictions and principles
  • Possess maturity beyond your years
  • Experience success in your family life and career
  • Contribute to the success of others
  • Think ahead of others

1) Respect yourself and those you work with

Self-respect comes with understanding who you are - your personality and purpose. You may not always win, but when you routinely give outstanding effort and you will experience success. Do not take failure or criticism personally. After failing, never give yourself permission to self-identify as a failure.

Respect is a building block of meaningful relationships, and it comes about when we place value on other people. As Ari Kiev writes, "Everyone wants to feel that he/ she counts for something and is important to someone. Invariably, people will give their love, respect, and attention to the person who fills that need." In other words, believing the best in people brings out the best in people.

Motivate, Don’t Manipulate = John Maxwell’s new book, High Road Leadership, discusses how motives matter because people matter.
